Vata Savitri Purnima is observed by married women for the long life of their husbands on Jyeshtha Shukla Purnima (full moon). Women fast, worship the banyan (vata) tree, and listen to the story of Savitri who brought back her husband Satyavan from Yama. This is the Maharashtra / Deccan observance.
