Vat Purnima (Vata Savitri Amavasya) is observed by married women on Vaishakha Amavasya in the Hindi belt (Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh). Women fast, worship the banyan tree, and pray for the long life of their husbands by hearing the story of Savitri. This is distinct from the Maharashtra Vata Savitri on Jyeshtha Purnima.
