Amavasya Tarpanam

Amavasya Tarpanam is the ritual offering of water and sesame seeds (Pitru Tarpan) performed on the new moon (Amavasya) day every month. It is dedicated to one's ancestors (Pitru). Performing Tarpan on Amavasya is believed to bring peace to ancestral souls, remove Pitru Dosha, and bring blessings to the family. The Mahalaya Paksha (Shraddha Paksha) fortnight is the most important time for Pitru Tarpan.
