Masa Shivaratri (or Masika Shivaratri) falls on the 14th day of the waning (Krishna) fortnight each month — one day before the new moon. Devotees observe fasting and night-long vigil in worship of Lord Shiva. The annual Maha Shivaratri in the month of Phalguna/Magha is the most important, but the monthly Masa Shivaratri is observed by devout Shaivites every month.
