Sri Nataraja Abhishekam 2022

Sri Nataraja Abhishekam refers collectively to six annual ceremonial abhishekams (sacred bathing rites) performed for Lord Nataraja, the cosmic-dancer form of Shiva, at the Chidambaram Temple. Each of the six is anchored to a distinct Tamil solar month — the Sun's transit through a specific rashi — combined with a particular tithi or nakshatra prevailing at either dusk or the pre-dawn hours.

Together, these six days trace a yearly rhythm of devotion at one of the five Pancha Bhoota Sthalams — the Chidambaram Temple, uniquely dedicated to Shiva as Nataraja and representing the element of Akasha (space). Devotees regard witnessing the abhishekam on any of these specific days as carrying particular merit.
