Panguni Uttiram 2025

Panguni Uttiram, also known as Lakshmi Jayanthi, is celebrated when the Uttara Phalguni Nakshatra prevails during Panguni Masa -- the Tamil solar month coinciding with the Sun's transit through Meena (Pisces) rashi, typically mid-March through mid-April.

The day carries significance across several traditions. In Vaishnava tradition it is observed as Lakshmi Jayanti, commemorating Goddess Lakshmi's appearance. In Tamil Shaiva and Murugan temple tradition, it is celebrated as a celestial wedding day -- of Shiva and Parvati, and of Lord Murugan (Skanda) with Deivanai and, in some regional traditions, Valli. Some traditions also observe it as the anniversary of Sri Rama and Sita's wedding.

The date is decided by which day Uttara Phalguni Nakshatra prevails at least three muhurtas (roughly the first fifth of daylight) past sunrise; when it falls short, the observance may shift to the previous day if the nakshatra prevailed at least three muhurtas before that day's sunset.
